My work ranges from everyday slöjd – which is about smaller items – to  public commission. The expression of all folk cultures interest me and is an abundant source of my motivation.

For many years I have sketched and measured slöjd from museum archives to learn how slöjd design and joints are made.

Folk Art is a farming community desire to decorate their everyday items. Chip carved or embroidered animals and humans is to be seen on folk art and the symbolic message is repeated in every country, time and materials. Folk art is ancient, universal human and global. Despite the poverty and misery it had to shine for the eye!

Lärandet är en vital del av min verksamhet. Jag håller kurser, föreläsningar, föredrag, men gör även uppskattade slöjdföreställningar.  Nedan ger jag en inblick i mina olika sätt att lära ut.

Slöjd is a complex intellectual and practical knowledge. Through the years I have learned the materials of different characteristics in both green and dry.
How does it splitit? Is it easy to carve? How dry it? Is it to bow? How strong is it?
Then there’s the knowledge of how the tools should be used and how they should be sharpened. Axes, drawknives, knives and spoons knives, drills and saws.

All courses are based on the old traditional craft where also inspiration for form and joining is.
We often go into the woods and select our materials to learn the process from the beginning and to get inspiration from the individual tree’s character. The main thing you learn in a workshop is how to process the wood by hand with riving and cutting tools, and how to display the form you want to do. Drying, grinding and surfacing are also important briefings during the workshop.

My first class was at Sätergläntan in Insjön 1985. Since then it has been around 10 per year. Especially in Sweden, from the very south up to the very north, but also in Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany, England, Belgium, Belarus, Canada, New Zealand, and since 1986 in the United States.

I also teach workshops, weekend classes and sells private tuition in my workshop.

Rhythm & sloyd

A show with stories, wood shavings, sweat and rock ‘n roll.

To the music of the Chemical Brothers, Arvo Pärt and self-composed music perform a 45 min long craft show. To the rhythm of the music I make a shrinkbox from a greenwood blank, while a story about the processes behind making crafts emerging. Here you´ll find thoughts and stories about crooked birches, my fathers horsecarving and about rich folk traditions. In behind images of old and new inspiring slöjd. The craft show  needs theatrical / technical equipment.
